It's either late 80's or early, possibly mid 90s.

What I can recall is it is of a younger girl that lives alone on a planet or meteor and has a plant or flower that she talks to.

I know it's not much to go off of and that's probably why I can't find anything.

It must have been on a cable network cause I could only watch it at my grandparents.

Any help is appreciated.

the story's very popular...

there are at least 4 or 5 movies inspired by the book,..
one of them pretty recent (2015/16)
The little prince also appeared in a sight gag on Futurama.

"The Little Prince" is a wonderful book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I highly recommend reading the book, along with watching the numerous movies and specials based on it.
Here are two of my favorite quotes from the book-
"What is essential is invisible to the eye."
There's also a scene where the Little Prince tells the pilot that there will come a time when it will look like he's dead, but it won't be true.
Very Happy Cool
It's a beautiful book and it was also a favorite of Mister Rogers. (That's actually where I learned about the book- from reading a biography about him. He's one of my all time favorite Christian heroes- he was an ordained Presbyterian minister and he viewed his television show as his calling and ministry to children. He lived out the love of God for kids and as Tom Brokaw said of him, "never spoke about God. He never had to." The love of Christ was evident in him. If anyone's interested in the biography book, it's called "The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers" by Amy Hollingsworth. I highly recommend that book too.)
Very Happy Cool

(Sorry to get a little off-topic; I couldn't pass a chance to talk a little more about this book and Mister Rogers' love for it. That first quote I mentioned was a favorite of his too- he had it framed in a picture on his wall in the original French.)
