man builds rocketship to reach star he sees from earth 80's

Been thinking of this one for awhile now. can anyone remember a cartoon (or claymation/stop motion perhaps) that had a man who looked at a star from his home. He went outside (or to a barn?) where he was building a ship to go to outer space and reach the star (.. he might have had a dog w/ him). If my memory serves, it was visually darker and there was no talking, just music. It's not Dr. Snuggles... This was also on the same VHS that I used to tape the Raccoons and the Claymation Christmas so I think it was late 80's. Wish I could remember more and I hope you can help! Thanks!
