I'm trying to figure out the name of a cartoon I saw in the 80s. I've asked about this cartoon here once before(under a different profile that I can't remember), but it's been years and of course I've forgotten it again! All I can remember is small pieces of the story.

I remember it had a woman (I think all dressed in white with some odd white hat, or head dress that stuck out) who was apparently created by these children. I remember they called her their masterpiece. I think they made her from some sort of sand, or pieces of something. I think it was set in a post apocalyptic world and she was created to save them.

Other than that I can't really remember it. I'm not sure if it was anime. I'm not sure if it was a one shot movie, or a series. And I'm not sure if was created in the 80s, or if it was an earlier work that I saw in the 80's. Something tells me it was on Nickelodeon (oh how I miss the good old days of Nickelodeon) but I can't be 100% sure of that either. Can anyone help me?

Sounds like you're
describing Arcana from,...

Spartakus and the
Sun Beneath the Sea
(85)
a.k.a. The Absorbed Worlds
a.k.a. Les Mondes engloutis

The mysterious subterranean world of Arkadia was in jeopardy, when it's
artificial sun began to fail. They had to send a heroic explorer out into the
crust to find a solution to save their land. The desperate people of Arkadia
used a long lost forbidden knowledge to create a special emissary named Arcana.
She would be their messenger.

A brother(Matt) and sister (Rebecca)from the suface world manage to get lost
and fall into a lost fault in the crust deep beneath the Earth. They were found
by Sparticus and Arkana in their living ship. I think Bac and Bic might have been
Arcadian pangolins. The kids join the journey while they look for a way home.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!! That's been driving me insane! The last time I was just told the name, and I had to wait a month before anyone responded! I never expected someone to respond so quickly and with right answer to boot!

I can't believe I forgot about the weird little creatures with them, or the kids odd masks! I remember staring at those masks and thinking how uncomfortable that would feel and why they didn't just take them off, how could I have forgotten that!? It aggravated me to no end (still does)!

I think I only ever saw the first few episode(s) (although I think I saw it many times because it really stuck) because all I can remember is wanting to see what would happen next, but never seeing anything beyond her being created and a few things after that.

How popular was it? Would there be any chance I'd find it on DVD somewhere?

just going by the inquires, very popular indeed.
It's easily among the top 5 cartoons asked about
on the forum.

It was a French series dubbed into English, so it would
be a bit tricky to find copies in English.
