My hubby has been trying to remember the name of this cartoon that was set in the Amazon. He thinks the name contained the word "ghost", but he isn't sure. The main character was a guy and he had a black panther as a pet/sidekick? He derived his powers from nature (we think). It is driving both of us crazy, so any help would be nice.

Well the only other jungle hero who was
associated with a large cat named ghost
and was located in the Amazon jungle was

Jana of the Jungle

She could use her necklace as a chakram/throwing ring blade
It's a weapon and a fashion accessory
In your face Xena!
It aired during the Godzilla Power Hour
Jana was like a female Tarzan. She was lost in the Amazon jungle as a little girl and raised by a powerful shaman from a lost tribe of indians.

Her friends were ghost, a powerful white jaguar, and Tico, a little water possum. She had an occasional light romantic interest in a young male naturalist/doctor who would play the damsel in distress role every few episodes. She defended the jungle's secrets and her animal friends from poachers while she continued her search for her missing father.

Jana of the Jungle.

but since he was a she and the cat was white not black I doubt this is the one
there was a much older anime series called
Taro, Giant of the Jungle
in which a jungle king got his powers from a radioactive tree
anything else? is it definitely an 80's toon?
western or anime?
