This should come as no big surprise, due to the huge success of the live action "Transformers" movie from 2007 and the highly anticipated sequel this summer, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (June 24th.- can't wait!  ), but hey- it's exciting to see that new DVD season sets are coming for the classic 1984 Transformers cartoon. This is the original "G1" series, as it's known by hardcore fans.
Season 1 will be available from Shout! Factory on June 16th., in time to help market the new movie and to celebrate the 25th. anniversary of Transformers! (So Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles both will be 25 years old this year! Cool )

(Some may be aware that Rhino was releasing Transformers on DVD at one time some years back, but those DVDs are long out of print now.)
Hopefully Shout! Factory will make up for that and get the whole series out on DVD again soon.
Also, since it's coming from Shout! Factory, you can count on these guys to include some awesomely cool extra bonus features!

Here's some more news on the extras for this DVD set.
Uncut episodes with restored audio! Good deal! And some pretty cool PSAs and other such things, including an Autobot magnet. Nice.

I did pick up the Original Releases of these in the Silver packaging of Season one and both Volumes of Season 2. But I never could find Season 3 at a decent price. so I'm looking forward to this release if only for that one season I'm missing._________________ Haven't thought of one yet, when I do i'll put it here.

Oooooh, the new 25th anniversary Season 1 DVD set will be better than the other releases. They've actually restored the episodes back to their broadcast versions, without all the mistakes they picked up from the masters that were fixed between the masters and production! Yay!

Well, now that the original G1 series of "Transformers" has fully been released on DVD, along with "Transformers: The Movie" (1986 classic)- what else is left?
Well, for one thing, Shout! Factory is working on re-releasing the '90s spin-off series "Transformers: Beast Wars". But since this is a forum for 1980s cartoons, I try to focus on just '80s cartoons DVD releases when I see them.
And there are some more Transformers cartoons from the '80s to be released on DVD- they just weren't aired in America. But in Japan, there were 3 sequel series! And the first of these, commonly known as "Headmasters", is getting released to DVD!!!

Look for it on July 5th. in Region 1 DVD! Hopefully, the "Master Force" and "Victory" series will both soon follow.

Okay- looks like the complete Japanese collection DVD is getting pushed back to July 12th. for release to DVD. But the reason for this is so that Shout! Factory can use better masters, so that's a good reason. And they're including a free lithograph with purchase!

Well, it turns out this DVD set was pushed back even further- but Shout! Factory is now saying it is set to release on January 2, 2012.
