One of my favorites. In the mid-80's, anything He-man was my favorite.

My friends and myself used to play Risk, Castle Risk, Axis & Allies, Fortress America, Shogun and Conquest of the Empire. Anything made by Avalon Hill as well.

I have not been down the board game aisle of any major store chain in years. Is Parker Brothers around or did they merge with Milton Bradley?

Looking at Hasbros' web site, it looks like they no longer use the brand names Parker Brothers or Milton Bradley. I looked at Battleship and Yahtzee (both Milton Bradley, originally) and Monopoly (Parker Brothers, originally). Both are now branded as Hasbro. They do still use the names Playskool and Tonka. You mentioned Avalon Hill. That name is no longer used. All those games are released under the brand Wizards of the Coast, who are also a division of Hasbro. Mattel is NOT, however, a division of Hasbro. Fisher-Price is a division of Mattel.

Interesting- I didn't know all these mergers had gone on. Kinda sad to not see Parker Brothers or Milton Bradley used anymore- those names and logos are pretty familiar to me growing up with them......but good to know the board games themselves are still around though.

Hasbro also owns, but does not use the name, Kenner Products, known for Star Wars toys in the past. In the mid-80s, Coleco purchased the games, but not the name, of Selchow & Righter, like the U.S. license to Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit and the game Parcheesi. After they fell into financial trouble, the games and other products were sold off. The U.S. rights to Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit went to Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley started making Parcheesi. All are, now, of course, Hasbro. Outside the U.S. and Canada, Scrabble is made by Mattel. Various companies sold the Cabbage Patch Kids after Coleco, including Hasbro, Mattel, ToysЯus and Jakks Pacific. They are currently sold by Wicked Cool Toys. Coleco re-emerged in 2005 and exist today (http://www.coleco.vision/).

Huh- didn't realize Coleco was even involved with toys (other than electronic ones.) I've always only known them for the Coleco Vision video game system.

Ah- love Kenner Products. Definitely known for Star Wars toys and also Indiana Jones toys. Smile (and some other cool lines from the '80s and other time periods, of course.) Here's a great site for Kenner Toys.

Yea, Coleco even had a computer, the Coleco Adam. It flopped because it was unreliable, with bad failure rates.

Oh, wow- you learn something new everyday. Smile
So you're saying because of the Coleco Adam's operating bootup disk, it flopped? Smile (I appreciate the pun there, intended or not.)

Some great information. Thanks LepricahnsGold. It is sad to see the names from my youth gone though.

My best memory of Parker Brothers, is the company making video cartridges for the Atari 2600, Mattel Intellivision and Colecovision.

Yep- that's true too. They did do video games as well- I'd forgotten that. Nice. Smile

Cool! Thanks for the links. I know Parker Brothers released a Spider-Man video game for Atari 2600, I believe- along with a Star Wars game too, I think. (I've seen comic book ads for both.) And I love playing that Popeye arcade game. Very Happy Cool

I played BattleShip with my cousins. We would play that game over and over again.

Spider-Man by Parker Bros. (for Atari 2600 and Odyssey 2)
Star Wars (for numerous systems including the Atari 2600). It is based on the arcade game.
There was also Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Atari 2600 and Intellivision), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Death Star Battle (for Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit home computers, and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer (a European computer)), and Star Wars: Jedi Arena (Atari 2600 only)
