Ah duck hunt. First off, i'm sure we all want to kill the little dog. But was this game amusing or what? I was ace at it when i was a kid (sure i was 2 inches from the screen but thats beside the point). I just discovered the other day that not only can u control the duck with the other controller BUT that "clay shooting" was when you were shooting clay disk. And to think i was shooting clouds all theses years.
Any fond memories of this game for you?

Duck Hunt!!! Very Happy

Yes, I loved playing this game. I had the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt game cartridge, so it was the other choice on the cartridge. It's also one of the main games I remember that required the Nintendo Gun for use. Yeah, I used to be fairly good at it- shooting ducks and I really liked the clay shooting too. And yes, the giggling dog that laughed at you when you missed was annoying. But that's a fun game. Very Happy

I guess Duck Hunt never got followed up with a sequal because of the nature of the thing it was simulating. By the time Super Nintendo or later N64 came out it probably would have been considered very un PC to develop games that simulated(which in many peoples minds means the same thing as endorse) bloodsports like shooting ducks. Personally I like ducks. I would never harm a duck no matter how much fun the game was. There is at least one dog out there I would really like to kill though.

thing is that only overly sensitive people would realy react to duck hunt.

just look at the cartoony way the dog or the ducks are presented, or for that matter those out of shape bullets your firing Laughing

its like its coming straight out of roger rabbit or something like that Cool

and if i ever get my hands on that dog he is history...

For those nostalgic about Duck Hunt, check out this tongue-in-cheek game from the guys that run Homestarrunner.com:

Click on Duck Guardian and enjoy a different spin on 8-bit ducks. Smile

I was obvioulsy naive, as I didn't think about putting the gun
a few inches from the screen, until years later.

Until then, I'd always sit back a few feet away, like a good
player should.

Boy, was my face red when I saw a friend of mine just go up
to the screen , put the gun there, and start blasting away.

Being right on the screen takes the fun out of it...because you'll never lose unless you waste all your bullets on the dog...

Oh yeah, I remember my brother and I would switch off controlling the duck with the 2nd player controller and the gun back in the day and try to make it go crazy so as not to let the accurate shot go through.

Hope it's ok to bump this..

Anyway, had a blast with this back in the day and am lucky enough to still have this game! The zapper works great still, the only problem is that it doesn't work on the new TVs which is a hassle as I had to keep 1 of my smaller tube TVs to continue to play it.

No problem at all with bumping an old thread. Very Happy Cool
I haven't played Duck Hunt in forever, but as I've said before- it's the only hunting video game I would ever list as a favorite. (I'm not big into hunting in real life though I have been on a hunting expedition before. Fishing, however, I'm cool with that- I much prefer that.)
That's a bummer that you can't get Duck Hunt to work with newer TVs. Well, I don't have that problem- lol. Definitely still have an older television set... I had to get the hover conversion in 2015 to even pick up channels since everything went digital. Laughing (sorry- random Back to the Future reference there- I'm meaning the digital converter box of course.)

I still have the NES cartridge in my collection (you know, the one that came along with Super Mario Bros) but I never really played it because I had never owned a Zapper. I, however, did played it on emulators, but it´s just not as good.

Good times, though.

Yeah it was so simple yet addictive, a lot of other light gun games remain fun as well although they're not from the 80s (House of the Dead series).

Wasn't there a House of the dead that used the keyboard for Dreamcast? Type away the zombie apocalypse! Rolling Eyes Otherwise that is a great series. Very Happy

I think you’re thinking of The Typing of the Dead. It was for Dreamcast, Windows and, believe it or not, coin-op arcade.

That game it´s pretty funny, actually.

Here's a list of gameplays and -pretty funny- commentaries:
