Who remembers this Sci-fi fantasy epic? sure it's not as brilliant as the novel but still left an impression on me when i watched it on video back in the 80's as a kid then i later realized the novel is way better.
I can't wait for the big screen 4-part adaptation of the novel and could do Frank Hebert justice.

I've heard much about Dune and the general consensus online is usually that the 1984 version is never quite as good as the book. It seems okay to me- I wouldn't mind checking it out sometime. A new take would be cool too though.

I thought the '84 movie was really good, and the most recent '00 mini-series was excellent as well. The book was better, but that's almost always the case. Definitely worth a put in the Netflix queue. It might even be available on Watch Now.

Dune is a 1984 science fiction film written and directed by David Lynch, based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel of the same name.

There are several books in this series written by Frank Herbert. After his death his son wrote several prequels and sequels. If you like scifi I highly recommend the complete series, absolutely beautiful.
There are two versions of the 1984 movie, both of which the director hated. One he refused to lend his name to which has some very different intros and scenes and is longer. Both he felt the studio were influencing and ruining his vision.

I hear the 1984 Dune was much too cut down, since it was a long story after all in the books. Hence, the more recent series is a mini-series.

I couldn't agree more with you. I donīt even remember if the books are even translated to another languages, but they are just beautiful.
Oh, and the videogames just do it perfect justice (specially Dune 1 and 2 on the PC).

Nothing better than a movie where Sting faced off against Kyle McLachlan. And Patrick Stewart before Star Trek.
