Looking for 80ies cartoon name

Hi everyone. awsome site.. Ill be spending more time browsing through all this.

Heres what i got:

Its a cartoon from the 80ies. Its about some space pilot guy. The look is a bit japanese anime style.
It used to be movies we could rent (VHS)

I remember him having short black hair. He´d be skinny and have a sorta gun holster on each side. Only they would contain some "handles" that could be put together and they would expand into a long staff with some knobs on either end and they could shoot lasers and some waves.

In big fights he would activate a powerstar that would grant him extra powers for a limited time. Naturally the narrator would warn that his powerstar (i belive was on his helmet (sorta like a motorcycle full face helmet) Or was it his chest ?.

Not to spoil it but he´d ofcourse always win the boss fights on the brink of being killed and JUST before his powers ran out..

Does anyone remember such a cartoon ? Im looking for just the name of the series..

I just did a checkup on bravestarr. I did watch that a kid though. But its not exactly the pilot guy i was looking for.

Ahh Yeah I could see it was that just seeing Aurora in the intro.. Im SO going to get all the episodes of that..
